At the core of the Opportunity Fund is a focused, intensive investment in LAUSD’s Priority Schools—the 121 campuses serving students furthest from opportunity. This focused strategy:
- Places the strongest principals in the schools that need them the most and invests in their long-term success
- Provides best-in-class coaching for teachers on the proven instructional strategies that drive student outcomes
- Ensures every classroom adopts high-quality instructional materials and uses the curriculum with fidelity
- Delivers intensive, high-dosage tutoring in literacy and math, where the research shows the biggest gains
This fund seeks to raise $30 million over three years, demonstrating that sustained investment in leadership, teaching, and literacy—paired with districtwide reach—can move outcomes for hundreds of thousands of students.
The Opportunity Fund aims to prove what was once thought impossible: that a large urban district can deliver improved reading, math, and overall success metrics across an entire system. This work has national implications. If it can be done in Los Angeles, it can be done anywhere.
